It is with heavy heart that I follow the news of the ‘Saffron revolution’ in Burma.

One image, one monk who came close to the camera, with calm and determination in his face, stays in my mind’s eye.

This morning I got an email from friends in Northern Thailand, forwarding messages from a nun friend inside Burma:

“Curfew was announced last night. Internet was cut off. Student activists were arrested at their home. Police trucks on street waiting to pick people up if they come out on the street. Aung Sann Suu Kyi was removed from her house.”

Irrawaddy is an independent magazine (also available online) reporting on Burma and South East Asia.
